Patient information
Consider specialist advice if you have reduced kidney function, protein or blood in urine, persistent swelling, difficult-to-control blood pressure, recurrent electrolyte problems, or have been advised to see a kidney specialist by your doctor.
Yes. Both can damage the kidneys over time. Regular check-ups, urine albumin testing, kidney function tests and appropriate treatment can help identify and manage risk.

No. Many people with chronic kidney disease are managed with monitoring, medicines and lifestyle measures. Dialysis is considered when clinically indicated, based on symptoms, laboratory results and the overall clinical situation.
No. Fluid needs differ. Some people need more fluids in specific situations, while others, especially those with swelling or advanced kidney or heart disease, may need a limit. Follow personalised advice.
